Rivers of Living Water

Rivers of Living Water

Jesus said, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." (John 7:37-38)

John explained that Jesus was speaking of the Holy Spirit, whom those who believed were to receive. (John 7:39)

But what Scripture did Jesus refer to? It is a beautiful verse - Isaiah 58:11:  "You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail." Does that describe your walk with the Lord, your life of faith?

We hear people talk about their relationship with the Lord, about the quiet time they spend with Him in prayer and in His Word. They mention a "dry spell" that many of us experience now and then, times when we don’t sense the clear and unmistakable connection with the Lord. I assumed that such dry spells would be part of my spiritual life as a matter of course, until I heard a godly man exclaim, "Why would anyone have a dry spell, when He is filled with Rivers of Living Water?"

Isaiah said we would be like a well-watered garden, with springs that never fail. If we're experiencing a dry spell instead of flowing springs, perhaps we have drawn away from the Source.

Pray with me now — Father, give us the Rivers of Living Water in such abundance that we cannot imagine drawing away from the Source! Create in us a thirst for You, for spending time with You. Fill us with more of Your Spirit so that it will overflow to those around us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Why does journaling mean so much to me?
Why does journaling mean so much to me?

To hear Him speak, our spirits must be in tune with His voice because He doesn’t usually speak audibly. However, He speaks just as clearly through thoughts and that come to mind. That’s why journaling is so important to me. Though God doesn’t speak to me every day, when He does journaling helps me remember what He has said, so that I can respond in writing and keep it for future reference. If I don’t write it down, I won’t remember.
